Flooding has been commonly seen around the world damaging property and land with great intensity. Flooding is just a simple disaster. Anyone can be affected by it even if you are at home or on the road or even swimming in a river near your area.
There are different types of flooding that occurs almost everywhere. There are floods that are connected with the overflow of rivers, streams, creeks and even drains and thus made some areas to get flooded as well. And there are other floods that are caused by man’s arrogance and ignorance put together, resulting into a calamity. Events such as these are often seen on TV or even in places where you live.
Most common seen of these are the city floods that, because of man’s ignorance to the welfare of his environment, cause city people to suffer from tragedies such as this. This usually happens with even a simple rain for like even a couple of minutes and after that is a massive barrage of damages.
People desire for too much convenience in every day living, resulting to the inconvenience of others. Even if engineers tried their best to construct with lesser risk in damaging Mother Nature it often results in a misfire affecting all of us.
There are a lot of guidelines on preparing us for flooding if flooding happens in your local area. But the best way to deal with this is just a simple preparedness and alertness when a flood happens. The good thing about flooding is that it takes hours or even days for a simple flood to surface. So we could do a lot of things and save a lot of stuff when it happens. Just that we have to remember that when a flood occurs near your area or when your local radio or television announced that evacuation is needed, then you have to comply. It is not about your inconvenience but rather for your own safety.
Some local stories of people dealing with flooding can be inspiring and laden with great heroism. Some people who are in flood areas can sometimes be just plain stubborn, thinking that they might lose everything if they leave their area. So they try to stay longer to protect their belongings and even their own livelihood and thus putting them in grave danger. But of course, one cannot blame them for acting in such a way. Hundreds of incidents can happen when a flood happens, from a simple up to toe flooding to being trapped on the roof of a ceiling to even being stranded in the middle of a river saving a cow or a horse.
Incidents such as this couldn’t be blamed on the people involved in such incidents. None of us want any disaster to happen. But awareness in such events can save even your own life and mine. The key to dealing with flooding is to be well informed of the dangers they pose, a plan on how to deal with it when it happens, and enough resources to carry out such a plan.
