Global advertising is all about bridging gaps between borders and cultures. Nowadays marketing and advertising agencies are international, and all products can be sold and marketed worldwide, hence the advertising and campaigning can also be pursued on the same level. A successful product launched in one country can be promoted by the company to achieve a market entry into other countries purely through global advertising.
If any company wants to become a global player, the success of the product could be enormous. For example, the brand image of Nike or Reebok is known worldwide and this brings about a consistency in their image. For global advertising financial costs are high, but a success story makes up for it.
Of course there are disadvantages too in global advertising. The needs of viewers and consumers in other countries and usage patterns of products have to be studied well before the product is advertised. There are so many differences in the world that they all have to be considered. For example, various administrative procedures, financial status, or just the legal environment in a country may not allow certain products to be advertised at all.
The internet has been a boon for global advertising. The internet user in one country knows about the products in another country and can purchase and use them according to his personal needs. Messages are now drilled into the people to bring about public consciousness and advertisers have learned the various methods to reach out to people. The advertising business is making huge profits through the internet and the financial gains have surpassed all broadcast media like TV, radio and print.
The method of search engine optimization (SEO) is the method used on the internet by all companies to advertise their products. There are giant holding companies that are now in possession of the traditional advertising agencies to media planning or digital advertising agencies. They have the expertise and can direct any internet user to the required product information, just by the click of a button.
Advertising in general has become quite aggressive today. There is a tremendous competition to sell to consumers, and the competition has become fierce because the consumers belong to the entire world. Most media companies therefore provide an aligned culture in their global advertising, so that they can cross boundaries and appeal to everybody. That is why today advertising targets global elite or the global teens who listen to the same music and wear the same brand of sports shoes.
Sometimes global advertising crosses cultural limits, because they want to sell their products at all costs. Making money today is by far more important than anything else, and every company is fighting for the first position in the market. But often the consumer does not think about the quality of the information or its application. Global advertising could, on the one hand give a morale boost to young people to achieve some goals, which are otherwise not common in their own country. On the other hand, it could harm the world’s children who are targeted with clever media campaigns and strategies of the media industry, where the products and goals are impossible to achieve and could result in depression and loss of self-esteem in the children.
