You might not necessarily associate water and mold damage with a home fire at first thought, but if you have ever had a serious home fire when the fire department had to be called then you know that the water damage will probably be an issue too as well as the possibility of mold. When you have a serious fire in your house it can be a triple threat. As if a fire alone is not bad enough, what if you have to end up dealing with all three?

When fire hits a home and it spreads enough to call in the fire department, they will arrive with their axes and water hoses and they do whatever is necessary to put out the flames. This could mean that they inadvertently end up causing damage additional to the fire. The water will go where ever they have to spray it and this means your furniture, electronics, clothing, and anything else that happens to be in the path.

Even after the fire is out and the water is shut off, the threat off mold comes into play. You might not be able to immediately get into your home and rescue items that were burned or wet. You will have to wait until the home is inspected and deemed safe to go into. This might only take a few hours or it could take a few days. When you are able to get out some of your belongings you might find that you have important papers and family photos that were untouched by the fire, but have been soaked with water. The same can be said for furniture, draperies, carpets, walls, and ceilings.

Your insurance should cover all of this damage if you have your policy in odor. This is one reason that it is important that you have enough coverage for your contents of the home. This way, you can be assured that you will be able to replace of all the things that have been damaged or destroyed because of the fire, water, or any mold that can develop because of the water damage.

It is vitally important that you do get into your home and rescue as many things as you possibly can. Having the damage accessed and the water cleaned up as quickly as possible reduces the risk of mold development. Insurance companies should move quickly to help you get water cleaned up fast because it will prevent you having more damage than necessary and cause you less headache and them less money.
