Big biceps elicit all types of exclamations and gasps. Biceps are the main showpieces for bodybuilders since they are usually exposed to the public eye. This is unlike the case for the six packs or the calf muscles. It is all the more reason why many bodybuilders concentrate on developing their biceps more than all other body parts. There are some things that must be taken into account if you want to own a pair of stunning biceps. You must establish how well or how poorly your biceps react to particular training regimes. Just like all other muscle groups thee biceps are prone to reacting more favorably with different types of training patterns. The skill of developing huge biceps has been continuously perfected over time and this technique is much more than just lifting heavy weights.
The first principle that you must consider has to do with the grip width in bicep curls. The bodybuilder should always bear in mind the fact that the grip width is of consequence with regard to bicep size. A narrow grip on the barbell translates into more growth for the outer biceps. Conversely a wide grip on the barbell is more effective in developing the inner biceps.
The second point to consider in bicep training is the consistence of bicep tension. As the bodybuilder does bicep curls it will be prudent to monitor the tension exerted on these muscle groups. For the top position curls one should take care not to allow the forearms to be straight with the floor. If the forearms are allowed to do so the net effect is that the muscles will be resting in between reps. On the other hand when lowering weights one should not allow the arms to go all the way. Always keep the arms with a small bent to sustain tension. Learn to control your arm movements. As you use dumbbells to train your biceps the arms are moved through both hand rotary motions and also through elbow flexure. These motions ad more value to your workout because there is an increased variation and also because the bicep muscles are worked through different angles. The supporting muscles are also developed in these motions. With barbells the grip changes to that of rotary motions. These help in the optimization of muscular tension thus accelerating bicep growth.
Isolation bicep exercise is another proven technique for those who want to grow their biceps. These exercises include techniques such as the concentration curls and the preacher curls. They work by isolating the bicep muscles and restraining the supporting muscles for example the deltoids from setting in. As the muscles are forced to contract harder, an increased rate of growth is expected and the biceps start developing a peaked appearance.
Last but not least one should be able to mix the exercise regimen. The training routines and exercises should be rotated and altered every few weeks. You can reverse the training patterns by starting off with the training pattern that you had previously used in finishing. These alterations are aimed at preventing the bicep muscles from hitting a plateau.
